Clara Bow was a Hollywood star actress, known for her roles in silent films in the 1920’s and talkies later in the decade. She earned the nickname “The It Girl” from her role in the 1927 silent film It, also appearing in other hit films of the time Mantrap and Wings. The well-known cartoon character Betty Boop was modelled on Clara. Though she may have struggled with all the gossip and celebrity scrutiny of being a Hollywood star, Bow has many positive and empowering quotes from her time in the limelight. Clara Bow has once again come to the forefront of pop culture by her name being used as the last track on Taylor Swift’s 2024 release, The Tortured Poets Department.
